Traumas, fear, weight, money, phobias and depression… EFT technique is preferred for these problems or obsessions that we have heard from everyone in the last few years. So, what is EFT? What are the benefits of EFT?

Answering the questions of Merve Kantarcı Çulha from Aksam.com.tr, EFT Specialist Gülay Gecü explained the most curious things about EFT, known as the emotional liberation technique.

EFT has become very popular in recent years. What do you think is the reason for this situation? Which complaint do they come to you with the most?

Because we are tired of talking about our problems and experiencing the same problems over and over again. The idea of solving problems in a short time and with an effective method seems safer and happier to everyone. EFT’s acupuncture-based approach, while healing the wounds in our souls, experiencing them with physical body sensations and comfort, has been effective in increasing the demand for EFT. And since a state of relaxation and peace emerges in everyone who experiences it after each session, EFT has become very popular. Traumas, weight, money and phobias are the topics I work with the most. When I look at my clients and students, I see that women are more in demand because they are in the leading role in every aspect of life and this wears them out both physically and spiritually.

EFT is said to improve people’s anxiety and depression symptoms, fears, phobias and stress-related physical symptoms. How does it really work?

Yes, it does. Because EFT is an acupuncture-based technique and the aim is to heal both the body and the soul by activating the energy channels we call meridian channels. Each of the meridian channels is connected to our organs and when we experience any negative event, this feeling is recorded in the body. And if we, without realising it, do not clear these emotions, a blockage starts to form in the energy body and when the body can no longer resolve this blockage, it starts to get sick. Since stress is defined as a danger in the subconscious mind, the subconscious mind takes us into ‘fight or flight’ mode to protect us. Many of the diseases occur as a result of the fight or flight signal of the subconscious mind. Through EFT tapping, we stimulate the nerve endings, sending positive signals to the part of the brain called ‘amygdala’ where our memories are stored, keeping it safe during the session. And even when clearing the most traumatic memories, we reach the result safely. The tapping exercises we give after the session help to increase the energy of the energy body and we start to remember traumatic events as an ordinary story. After working on the experiences such as depression, anxiety disorders, fears, worries, phobias, etc. that tire us and negatively affect our daily life, our body starts to relax and we feel peaceful.

CONDITIONS FOR A GOOD EFT EXPERT

While researching, I saw that many people are interested in this subject. What should those who want to find healing from EFT pay attention to when choosing an expert?

One of the most important things to consider when choosing an EFT specialist is his/her licence and experience. Unfortunately, there are people in our country who introduce themselves as EFT experts with four-hour trainings, and these people complete these trainings without knowing where the EFT points are. Unfortunately, I have encountered clients who came across these people and could not find a solution and even got into a more difficult situation. There is an advice I give to my expert candidate students during EFT trainings; clean your own stories before doing this job professionally. If you want to be rich in energy and be beneficial to your clients, this is the primary way to do this. And in my trainings, I choose to contribute to their journey of expertise with sample sessions by clearing the stories of the expert candidates. People who are looking for a good EFT expert should also pay attention to this experience and energy part. When you come across a good EFT expert, the first thing you will feel is ‘trust’. Because the energy is real and it reflects on you. You feel this.

PROFESSIONAL VIEW OF EFT ABROAD

Is there an age limit? Can everyone benefit from this technique?

Starting from 2 years of age, everyone can benefit from this technique. However, those diagnosed with epilepsy, bipolar and schizophrenic personality disorders cannot benefit from this technique.

Finally, what do you think are the differences between the perspective of techniques such as EFT abroad and the perspective in Turkey?

The view of alternative techniques abroad is professional. Almost all of these techniques are discovered abroad, because they are open to learning, and the word ‘alternative’ is perceived as a ‘choice’ rather than a threat. In addition, everything, including alternative techniques, is followed by certain legal regulations. For example, specialists abroad are obliged to have individual insurance for their clients. Clients, who know that their rights are protected, choose methods in the fields that suit their needs. In addition, in order to become an expert in these fields, specialists receive long-term trainings, not for 3 hours, but for at least 1 week, and are subjected to examinations to obtain this title. EFT has become a field that is being researched in universities abroad under the name of energy psychology and funds are allocated for this research.

In Turkey, EFT has started to be a field that is being researched in master’s thesis subjects in universities, but it is insufficient. Uncertainties in the field of education and certification in Turkey, prejudices about this technique unfortunately cause uncertainty in this field. There is a perception that everyone should go to university, or there is an ‘unprofessional’ process that is stuck between two extremes that do not understand the importance of the work done. This causes the confidence in alternative techniques to be shaken. I hope that the legal regulations regarding these trainings, which we have obtained as a result of long labour, will help EFT to get the value it deserves.
